Strategic plans act as a roadmap for the District to follow during a five-year period, highlighting specific projects and goals for long-term sustainable growth. The most recent strategic plan was created in 2016 and lasted through June 2021.
The survey will gather input about long-term strategies and goals that are most important to community members. Data collected will help the District to shape a strategic plan that reflects community priorities.
The survey is open to all stakeholders – parents/guardians, students, staff, and residents of Conval’s nine sending communities.
“We ask everyone to take a few moments to complete this important survey,” Superintendent Rizzo Saunders said. “This input is vital in guiding the District to develop a strategic plan to serve our students that reflects the goals and visions of our community.”
The survey is open and will remain live through Tuesday, Feb. 1. To take the survey:
- Parents/guardians of students, click here.
- ConVal District staff members click here.
- Students, click here.
- Community members, click here.
A draft of the strategic plan is expected to be completed by June 2022. The plan will be reviewed by the School Board and implemented after approval.
More information about the strategic planning process can be found on the district’s website here.

This has resulted in increased discussion in our math classrooms, labeled as accountable talk, which according to research has an incredible impact on student learning. Currently the offerings are Costume Design (pictured above), Dungeon Master Guild, Improv, Ancient Warfare, and Photography. Students are responsible for connecting with their classroom teachers to make up any missed assignments. Good Afternoon ConVal Community,
We were informed today of a case of COVID-19 at Great Brook School. We are actively working with and following guidelines from the New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS).
NH DHHS has requested we provide contact information for anyone who has been identified as having had close contact with the infected person. The staff and students of Great Brook continue to do a wonderful job of working within the mitigation strategies of our Reopening and Recovery Plan. At this point there is no need to change our instructional model, all students will remain in person, and those who have been identified as a close contact have been notified.
The current recommendation from NH Department of Health and Human Services (NH DHHS) for people who may be exposed to COVID-19 in the school setting is to:
For 14 days from the last day of exposure:
- Monitor for COVID-19 symptoms and
- Wear a mask in indoor public settings and
- Consider testing 3-5 days following the last day of exposure
- If your child develops symptoms please isolate them at home and seek testing for COVID-19.
Symptomatic students or staff can be allowed to return to school when one of the following two conditions is met:
- Person receives an FDA-approved COVID-19 test that is negative, AND the person’s symptoms are improving and they are fever-free for at least 24 hours off any fever-reducing medications.
Approved tests include:
- A PCR-based molecular test
- Antigen testing conducted within an appropriate number of days since symptom onset
- Person has met CDC criteria for ending home isolation (i.e., if a person is not tested, they are assumed to be COVID-19 positive).
Our school is working closely with the New Hampshire (NH) Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) to follow the guidance they have provided for this situation and will provide updates should their recommendations change.
Because COVID-19 is most commonly spread through respiratory droplets, the NH DHHS is recommending the following precautions to prevent the spread of the disease:
- Get vaccinated, for those who are eligible.
- Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds or use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol if soap and water are not available.
- Avoid high risk locations, especially ones that are indoors and crowded, and where people are unable to maintain physical distance from others.
- If there is substantial community transmission in your area, wear a cloth face covering that covers your mouth and nose to protect others when in public areas.
- Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze, then throw the tissue in the trash and wash your hands.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth with unwashed hands.
- Stay home and seek testing if you have a fever or are not feeling well.

Due to COVID-19 concerns, Great Brook and South Meadow Middle Schools paused the instrumental and choral programs. Music teachers taught general music, including music history, theory and technology, but students were unable to participate in performing groups.
This school year, students will have the opportunity to participate in the instrumental, choral or general music programs as a part of the United Arts Rotation, which allows students to experience several disciplines. The district plans to alter the regular class schedule so that students have music classes five days a week.
Students in these classes develop the skills needed for successful careers in music, including teamwork, focus, confidence, discipline and active listening. According to the National Association of Music Educators, students with three or more years of instrumental music training show enhanced auditory discrimination, fine motor, vocabulary and nonverbal reasoning skills.
"Most musicians develop their love for performing and the arts before they get to high school. We are hoping to make up for time lost due to the pandemic by offering increased opportunities for students to get involved in music," said Superintendent Rizzo Saunders. "Our students have so much potential and we want them to explore it while learning the skills needed to graduate to higher-level music classes. Studying music helps students develop skills that are crucial for many different types of classes and subjects.”
To ensure the safety of students and staff, the district will follow guidance from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), the International Coalition of Performing Arts and the state. When indoors, band and chorus students will be required to maintain a social distance of three feet, wear a mask and use instrument bell covers to limit the spread of airborne particles. The district will utilize outdoor spaces to practice whenever possible.
"During middle school, students want to try new things, find friends with similar interests and feel successful. Music allows them to do this," said Music Teacher Patrick Cogan. "I am so excited to have my ensembles running again. I cannot wait to make connections with my students and share with them what I have loved doing for so many years."

Good Morning ConVal Community,
In the course of the last 24 hours we have become aware of 2 separate and distinct cases (students in different pods) of COVID-19 at Great Brook School.
Due to the nature of these cases the contact tracing has been quite extensive. We are in active conversations with the New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services (NH DHHS). Additionally, one of the cases involves another agency who NH DHHS will be reaching out to. NH DHHS has requested we provide contact information for anyone who has been identified as having had close contact (within 3 feet for a total of 10 cumulative minutes or more, beginning 2 days prior to first illness onset or collection of positive test, whichever is earlier) with the infected person.
Anytime a student or staff member is potentially exposed they receive a phone call from the appropriate building administrator. These calls have been made. At this point there is no need to change our instructional model. However, based on contact tracing a number of students have been asked to quarantine and are presently attending school remotely.
The safety of our children, employees, and community is our top priority. Should your student show symptoms or test positive for COVID 19 it is important that you reach out and let your student’s school know, we can not begin contact tracing without confirmation of a positive case from a parent/ guardian or from NH DHHS.
To ensure your health and safety. and to be sure that we are able to finish the year in our present instructional model, we should all take the following precautions to prevent the spread of the disease:
- Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds or use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol if soap and water are not available.
- Notify the school if your student displays symptoms, has tested positive for COVID 19, or has been in contact with someone that has tested positive for COVID 19.
- Avoid close contact with others.
- When outside your home, keep a distance of at least 3- 6 feet between yourself and others.
- Wear a cloth face covering that covers your mouth and nose to protect yourself and others when indoors at public areas.
- Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze, then throw the tissue in the trash and wash your hands.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth with unwashed hands. Stay home if you have a fever or are not feeling well.
If you have questions please do not hesitate to reach out directly to me at ksaunders@conval.edu.
Best,
Kimberly
